Faded Friends

I need to know what vexes me and need to understand
I need to be alone again and touch each grain of sand.
In Tema, West Africa, not far from east Accra
Julie Nii-Moi was my Black Star, childless Mother, Africa!
Faded friends return to greet me
Drumming softly, drumming quickly
Friends for life and friends for After
Share my joy of love and laughter.

COUNTRYMEN

My dear countrymen.
Have you had not enough,
Of the rate race.
Your hands are so cold.
Your face looks so old.

Your songs have no music.
They are laden with sorrow.
Your countrymen are waiting.
So impatient for tomorrow.

Their roof is still leaking.
But none is ever willing.
So your labour to the bone
To make a lively home.

AFRICA

The sun rises by day
And the moon by night
The little twinkle stars
Sparkle with mysterious wonder
So distant, yet so beautiful
And they smile on her.

The rain cascades from the heavens. As crystal and clear as a gem.
The blue skies express hallelujah
All the birds cry amen
And they bless her.

The children play and dance
Making hay whilst the sun shines. Their innocent faces beams
As the evening meal beckons
The old recounts past glories
And the young, future romances. They love her,
How they love her.

ACHEBE Say's…

Beware SOUL brother. When the arrow of God strikes And things fall apart Even the man of the people Is no longer at ease Amongst the anthills of the Savannah.
